Wedding season is officially in full swing, and if you’re like me, you’ve already been invited to at least three so far this year. I. Love. Wedding Season. I mean I really do. Especially now that mine is behind me, I enjoy them more than ever because I’m not stressed out haha. While this season is so fun and full of celebrations and showers galore, it can get a little pricey, amiright? Between gifts, bachelorette trips, destination weddings, and all the outfits you need, it can be a lot. Of course, we want to look super cute for all of the festivities, and in a perfect world, we would be able to buy something new for each one. But that’s just not realistic, at least not for me. So I wanted to share some ways you can make what you already have in your closest go further this season! Now I’m not going to tell you not to go shop for the actual wedding, because that’s just part of the fun. But when it comes to things like showers, parties, and trips, you have other options.
This outfit that I’ve put together is honestly so simple but really perfect for a shower or bridal lunch. All I did was take a striped button down (one of my favorite must-have closet staples) and pair it with this super cute floral skirt. I love how versatile both of these pieces are on their own. The top can be casual or dressy. The skirt is one that I used to wear to work all the time but it’s also great for church or other dressy events. I know a lot of you are probably thinking “no way I’d ever mix patterns like that.” I get it. But it is one of my favorite styling hacks! If you do it the right way, you can make so many interesting outfits.
Pro Tip: to properly mix patterns, the key is to pair smaller patterns with larger patterns. For instance, a thin stripe on top with a larger floral pattern on bottom!
Other things that you probably already have in your closet include cute trousers or dress pants, maxi skirts and dresses, and my all-time favorites, jumpsuits and rompers! In my opinion the only “rules” you need to follow are 1. don’t wear all white or too much white and 2. make sure your outfits are appropriate. As in, things that need to be covered are covered, and there aren’t too many cutouts or sheer fabrics. You don’t HAVE to wear the latest and greatest of dresses to every event. Chances are you’re going to wear it once and forget about it anyway. Mix it up, get creative, and save yourself some money!
