Happy Hump Day, friends! If you know me at all, you know that I love wearing all neutral everything. Lately I’ve been on a blue/green kick, but if you look in my closet, you’re going to find 90% neutrals. But why? Doesn’t that make for a boring closet? What does a minimalist wardrobe look like for you? To answer those questions, today I’m sharing what minimalist fashion means and why I believe it is crucial to your wardrobe’s longevity. I’ll also be sharing some of my newest favorite neutral staples. I’m so excited to dig into this topic with y’all!
What is Minimalist Fashion?
While for me it does actually mean neutrals like black, white, grey, off white, blush, and denim, for you, that may not actually be the case. However, you should start by choosing the perfect color palette for you. It also doesn’t necessarily mean that you have a very limited number of things in your closet. A minimalist wardrobe really just refers to having an intentional wardrobe. It means that you don’t impulse buy 99% of the time. It means that you think about what you’re buying and how you’re going to wear it down the road. A minimalist wardrobe suits your personality and your lifestyle perfectly. So you have a closet full of stuff right? But you know those same three tees and that same grey babydoll dress that you’re always reaching for? Those are the kinds of things that your wardrobe should consist of!
Why Should You Strive Towards a Minimalist Wardrobe?
- Versatility. Basically, if the base of your wardrobe consists of black, white, grey, off white, blush, and denim (or the color palette of your choosing), the outfit possibilities are endless. Who doesn’t want endless outfits? While I love wearing neutrals on neutrals like in the below photos, I also love to be able to add a fun print or pop of color every now and then. If you only have a closet full of bright colors and prints, that can be a little hard to do.
- Longevity. Because I have a minimalist wardrobe, most of the things in my closet rarely go out of style. If I’m cleaning out my closet it’s usually just to make room for more or because I’ve worn something out, not because it isn’t trendy anymore.
- To Declutter. What’s the point of having a closet full of clothes if you only wear five things on repeat? Get rid of what you don’t wear and replace it with quality pieces that you’ll be reaching for for years!
- Confidence. There’s nothing like putting on your “power outfit” and feeling like you can take on the world. Shouldn’t your whole closet make you feel like that? Instead of being stressed out when you get ready and feeling like you have nothing to wear, you’ll feel great in whatever you choose!
Unless you’re already on top of this whole minimalism thing, this process won’t happen over night. Start by picking out the key pieces in your closet that you always reach for. Note the color palette and the styles and silhouettes that you lean towards. Get rid of what you never wear anymore, and start filling those holes with intentional, quality pieces that you’ll love for years to come.

Speaking of power outfits, this is for sure one of mine. I put this on for photos and my self confidence instantly skyrocketed. There’s just something about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and your clothing, that changes you, am I right? What I love about this outfit is that it’s made up things that I know I’ll be wearing for years and that won’t go out of style. AND I can wear each of these items multiple ways.
This maxi duster is the softest thing I’ve every felt in my life and it’s so cozy. It would be so cute over a little dress or even with shorts. The tank is such good quality. I am always in need of a white base piece, and I truly love this one layered and on its own because of the little seam and rib details. As for these trousers, I mean come on. They are SO comfy and sophisticated in my opinion. They can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Oh, and they have pockets. Winners for sure. I will absolutely be taking this entire outfit on vacation with me next week!
I got this entire outfit (minus the shoes, bag, and hat) from the cutest little boutique back in my college town of Starkville, Mississippi. The store is called George-Mary’s and upon walking in the front door, it became my new favorite place to shop. Aside from it being unlike most college town boutiques, everything is really great quality and it’s all so affordable. Plus it’s a neutral-lover’s heaven. Be sure to check them out on Instagram (you can shop straight from Insta!) and on their website!
