Happy Friday, friends! Now that Labor Day is almost a week gone, I thought I would talk about one of those silly “fashion rules” that I don’t follow haha. And that is the “you can’t wear white after Labor Day” rule. {Rolls eyes aggressively.} When it comes to fashion rules, there are few that I actually follow, and this one is probably at the top of that list. Like, who thought it was ok to make that a rule, and what did they have against the color white. Just kidding, there is a real story behind the rule, and you can read about it here.
So on that note, today I’m going to:
- Tell you why it’s really ok to wear white after Labor Day
- Teach you how you too can wear white during fall
- Share 3 easy outfits you can copy right now (or as soon as the temperature drops)

Why It’s Ok to Wear White After Labor Day
- White is a great neutral. It gives you countless outfit opportunities, so why limit yourself just because of some silly rule?
- It makes for an easier transition to fall if you don’t have to put up ALL of your summer pieces. Leave your white tees and bottoms and get creative!
- White is a classic when it comes to fashion. You can have it in your closet year round without worrying about whether it’s in style or not.
- No one is actually going to judge you. Who knows, you might even inspire someone else!
- Ultimately, you should be able to wear what you want and what you love. Don’t let an out-of-date rule stop you!
How To Wear White in the Fall
I personally think white in the fall is just so pretty, and there are so many ways you can wear it. It really just comes down to texture and color. When I think of fall and winter, texture is what comes to mind. So pairing your white denim jeans with a leather jacket or a chunky knit is key to getting that fall vibe while wearing white. The other important thing is to complete the outfit with other neutrals so that there isn’t too much contrast. For example, you could pair your white corduroy bottoms with a heather gray tee and denim jacket or a white sweater and camel coat. I LOVE the look of camel and white together in the fall/winter months.
Pro Tip: If you aren’t sold on wearing stark white in the fall or winter, that’s ok! Go for a creamy off white or ivory instead.
