Happy Friday y’all! Can you believe the month of September is almost gone already? Before we know it, it’ll be Christmas time! September is such a special month for Kevin and I because it’s wedding month! We got married September 23, 2017. One whole year…well, really a year and a half of marriage I guess, but one year since our actual wedding. I don’t know how it’s already been a year, but it’s been so much fun being married. In honor of our anniversary being this past weekend, I wanted to spend today talking a little bit about one of the most important things we’ve learned over the last year + share our date night style with y’all! I love these photos so much because Kevin is usually the one behind the camera, but for once he got to join me in front of it. (Thanks mom!)
You can see some of our engagement and wedding photos in this post if you’re interested!
Today I’ll be talking about:
- Why date night is so important
- Date night style
Why Date Night is So Important
If we’ve learned anything in this last year and a half, it’s that date night is a must for us. You’re probably thinking, isn’t every night date night, now that you live together? Well, not really. A lot of the time we’re sitting on the couch next to each other but we’re doing our own thing. He’s studying, I’m working, or we’re zoned into the tv. And while Netflix nights are great, they’re no date night.
When I say date night, I mean leave the house, and go somewhere where you can have each other’s undivided attention. For us, date night isn’t always getting super dressed up and having a fancy dinner. It could be going to Chick Fil a in leggings and a tee. It just means getting out of the house together and enjoying each other’s company. One of our favorite things to do besides Chick Fil a, I kid you not, is to wander around Target for an hour or two and leave with absolutely nothing. We have SO much fun haha. Then at least once a month, we will make it a point to get kind of dressed up and go have a nice dinner and see a movie or do something special.
Marriage is great. I love that we get to see each other literally every day as long as he’s home. But it’s still important to set aside time each week where you’re focusing on growing your relationship, talking about big life things, and just leaving the house and having some fun together. And we’ve found date night is crucial for those things to happen. So if you’ve been married for any amount of time and you feel bored or distant or things just seem kind of comfortable and consistent, try mixing it up! Get dressed up and go have a nice dinner. Have a picnic, go to a festival or farmers market. Just get out of the house together, put your phones aways, and go have fun. Talk about the future and your dreams. I promise, it will help you grow in your relationship as a married couple.
Date Night Style
Kevin
I’ve had a lot of requests to share some men’s fashion, so I thought this would be a great time to do that. Y’all I love dressing Kevin hahaha and he’s so open to it, he basically asks me to pick out his clothes for him anytime we leave the house. So, as I’m sure you know, men’s fashion can be really expensive. Well, Kevin isn’t about that. Mainly because he wears a uniform to work everyday and doesn’t need many fancy things. For tops and jeans, Kevin really loves American Eagle. It’s so affordable and the jeans are amazing quality. They have lots of great basic tops like Henleys, tees, and flannels which Kevin loves. So when we shop for him, we always choose American Eagle or Nordstrom. He also really loves Lululemon for his workout clothing.
For date night, Kevin will usually wear jeans or his favorite khaki joggers and a henley or tee like the one he has on here. One thing Kevin doesn’t mind spending a little more on are his shoes (I’ve taught him well) because he wants them to last a while and to also be comfy. These sneakers came from the Cole Haan outlet and he wears them ALL the time. (P.S. Cole Haan has a really good military discount!) They’re classic and perfect for wearing year round!
Hayley
Ya’ll pretty much know my style by now haha. For date night, I really like to look like a put a lot of effort in, without actually having to do so. I like to pair a good tee, printed or with a layer over it, with an interesting bottom, like this cute corduroy skirt. I also love comfy trousers or a simple dress. Another good way to add a little something to your look is by adding a fun printed bootie. Fun fact, Kevin really wanted me to buy these boots because they have a tiny houndstooth pattern (because he’s an Alabama fan *major eye roll*). Lucky for him, houndstooth and plaids are super trendy right now. I’m not a huge fan of heels, so if I do wear one, it’s small and blocky.
