Ok, so I know y’all are probably tired of me talking about Fall, but it’s actually in the 60’s today and for the next several days. I think it’s here to stay and I am here. for. it. Anyway…
I thought I might start a “Fashion Trends” series for fall and winter because there are so many great ones out there this year, from fun prints and fabrics to decades being brought back to life. Today I wanted to talk about the 70s trend that is in full force this year. I feel like it’s gradually been showing up over the last couple of years with the corduroys and flared jeans, but this year it is EVERYWHERE. I walked into Forever 21 not too long ago and it looked like the 70s had thrown up in there. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the trend, but I have to admit, it’s grown on me.
Today I’m going to:
- share some items from the 70s trend that I’m loving
- talk about how to incorporate parts of the trend into your wardrobe
- give you all the details on this 70s-inspired outfit

Things I’m Loving From the 70s Trend
Corduroy
There are so many good things about the 70s trend, but all the corduroy might be my favorite. From jumpers to trousers and mini skirts, corduroy is on everything right now and I’m ok with it. Corduroy, in my eyes, has always been an indictor of fall, and I’m glad we’re getting back on board.
Plaid
I don’t think plaid ever went anywhere, but again, like corduroy, it’s on literally everything right now. It’s a specific kind of plaid though. In most cases it has a tiny houndstooth print thrown in there and it’s almost always black, white, and brown. You can find it on coats (my personal favorite), pants, skirts, boots, and more.
Wide Leg Pants
I never ever thought I would want a pair of wide leg jeans over skinny jean, but y’all they are SO flattering. I’ve seen them in denim, corduroy, cropped, and the list goes on. Do yourself a favor and grab a pair of wide leg pants this season.
Geo Print Tops
Another thing I didn’t think I was really into. I’m super picky with my prints but I’m not against the geometric prints I’ve been seeing lately, especially if it’s in a color combo that’s pleasing to the eye.
Over The Knee Boots
I’ve been obsessed with over the knee boots for the last few years, and I’m so glad the trend hasn’t gone anywhere. I love to pair them with skirt and dresses in the fall/winter as an alternative to tights or leggings. I also think they’re really flattering on everyone!
Mini Skirts
I really love a good mini skirt in the fall and winter months because you can do so much with it. Pair it with your fav over the knee boots, an oversized sweater, tights and booties, etc. So many options. This year I’m especially into all the different fabrics (corduroy, suede, leather) and the button details.
How To Wear the 70s Trend
What I really love about a full on decade trend is that you can make it your own. There are so many different pieces like I talked about above, that you can incorporate what suits your style without wearing a head to toe 70s outfit.
- For the Minimalist: Incorporate a pair of wide leg denim or trousers into your rotation to mix things up. In my opinion, the wide leg is on it’s way to becoming a classic anyway!
- For the Girly Girl: You already love your mini skirts and boots. Why not try a fun suede skirt and a pair of heeled over the knee boots?
- For the Working Girl: Add a geo print button down to your collection of dress shirts. Throw a plaid blazer or a pair of corduroy trousers into your work wardrobe and be right on trend in the office this season!

About the Outfit
Remember how I mentioned Forever 21 looked like the 70s threw up in it? Well it clearly worked because it had me itching to buy this outfit. The printed top and button skirt are both super affordable Forever 21 finds (both under $20). I’m wearing a size medium in both the top and skirt. The over the knee boots are Steve Madden from last year but I’ll be sure to link some similar ones for y’all! Wearing a size 8 in the boots, as always.
What Fall trends are you loving this year? I hope you all have a great (fall-like) weekend and maybe if we’re lucky we’ll get to wear a sweater or two! Thanks for stopping by, as always!
