Hey friends, happy to see you! I am so excited for this weekend because my family is coming to visit and it’s mom’s birthday, so it’s going to be a lot of fun! I cannot wait to enjoy this amazing weather with them.
Today I wanted to continue my Fall Trends series by talking a little bit about how to shop for trendy pieces. While trends can be super fun and exciting, they can also be things that we buy, wear once, and then never see the light of day again. Because of that, I want to share some of my tips on how to effectively incorporate trends into your wardrobe. I’ll also share another trend I’m (surprisingly) loving this year!
So today I’m going to:
- Talk about how to shop for trendy pieces
- Talk about how to incorporate them into your capsule wardrobe
- Share another trend I’m really into this fall
- Give you all the details on this outfit!

How To Shop For Trendy Pieces
I totally get it, trends are fun and new and exciting. It’s cool to have the latest trends, especially before everyone else. I’m with you. There is always a trend or two each year that I really love and feel like I need. But I’ve learned over the last couple of years that I have to be careful and super picky with what I buy, because if I don’t, I become a major impulse shopper and my closet starts to fill up with things that I probably won’t wear after the current season. So my biggest advice when shopping trendy items is less is more. Choose one or two trends that you love and only buy a couple of pieces per trend. For example, if it’s a print like leopard, pick a good sweater and either a bag or a pair of shoes and let that be it. You’ll thank yourself later.
ALSO I highly recommend not spending a lot of money on trendy things. Shop for them at affordable boutiques or at places like SHEIN. Yes, I really do shop there by the way haha. Pro tip for shopping SHEIN: look for products that have good reviews. Those are usually ok to buy. If there are no reviews, I don’t recommend it.
How To Incorporate Trends Into Your Wardrobe
Again, I say less is more. I don’t recommend dressing head to toe in leopard or camo or any trend really, haha. Choose one piece of your outfit, whether it’s a sweater or an accessory like a bag, and let that be your how you showcase the trend. I LOVE the idea of pairing a leopard print shoe with your go to black leggings and sweater. Another example would be the 70s trend that I talked about last week. You don’t have to wear flared pants, a bright printed shirt and a corduroy jacket to be “on trend.” Instead, choose one of those and pair it with something you already have in your closet that you love to wear regularly. Adding trendy pieces one at a time gives you endless wardrobe options and outfit combos!
The Camo Trend + About The Outfit
Last year when I started seeing camo print show up here and there, I’ll admit, I was not a fan. But since then, it has kind of grown on me. I love all the greens and grays that I’ve seen, I like the print on comfy sweatshirts, and I really love the print on the more feminine pieces like a silky dress or a cami like I have on here. I don’t know that I’ll buy much more camo this year, but I’m loving this little cami for layering!
The cami is from American Eagle (big surprise lol I love that place) and is SO affordable. It come in one size (I would normally wear a small) which I was a little skeptical about, but it actually fits really well. It has an elastic band at the back so that helps with the fit. I’ve paired it with my favorite green cardigan, but this would be so cute under a leather or denim jacket as well. Now lets talk about these pants y’all. These are a cropped, flare leg made of the softest corduroy material. These pants are so stretchy and comfy + they have a hight waist which I require in almost all of my pants. I’m wearing a size 6 regular in these and loving them.

What are your thoughts on the camo trend this year? Would love to hear what you think in the comments below! I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for being here!

Thanks for the tips on buying trends! I like the idea of accessoring with animal print shoes and bags. I might look for a scarf. I have a pink camp tee that I will be wearing under a cardigan like you are showing with your tank. Great article and I will be looking for some cords. Unfortunately at my age American Eagle won’t fit me but I am currently in Austin so I will have check out Nordstrom!
