I know, I know, it is still very much winter out there. Spring is nowhere in sight. So why am I talking about transitioning to spring? Well let me tell ya: 1. I like to be prepared. 2. This outfit is too perfect not to share right now 3. It seems like there is very little info out there on HOW to build a transitional outfit. So one of my number one rules when shopping is to buy things that are versatile. Things you can wear year round if you really wanted to. I’ve recently gotten a few new things that I think fit that description and I know you’re going to love them just as much as I do! But before I share them, I wanted to talk a little bit about how to create a simple winter-spring transition outfit.
What you need for the perfect transitional outfit
Creating the perfect transitional outfit isn’t difficult but you do need the right pieces to make it work. A lot of times I feel like we’re shown a great “transitional outfit” but nobody ever talks about what you need to make it happen. So I want to do that first and then illustrate with the perfect winter to spring look.
Layers
The biggest key to creating any transitional outfit is layers. A good cardigan or light jacket can instantly improve a boring outfit + make it suitable for all kinds of climates and transitional periods. Also, I highly recommend layers for traveling. More great layering options are flannel shirts, vests, and light pullover sweaters.
Neutrals or Color?
We all know how much I love my neutrals. Well the main reason for that is that they go with everything and are appropriate for every single season. Neutrals are perfect for moving into a different season too. Add a pop of color depending on which season you’re heading into to really pull of a transitional look.
The right shoes
This might be something you wouldn’t really think about as being important, but shoes can be really defining for your look. For instance, if you want to start leaning toward spring-like tones and outfits but you’re still on the winter-weather side of the season, just throw on a pair of over the knee boots. If you’re getting into the warmer temps, throw on a pair of white sneakers with your cozy cardigan.
The right fabrics
When it comes to going from winter to spring, it’s really important to think about fabrics. I personally really like to mix and match: for example, in the outfit I’m sharing today, I’ve paired a light knit tee with a cardigan and wool skort to create contrast. You may still want to keep wearing sweaters in March/April. Instead of wearing the thickest, warmest chunky knit you own, try switching it up for a lighter knit that’s appropriate for warmer temperatures.

About the Outfit
I am SO OBSESSED with this entire outfit y’all. The color palette gives me LIFE. It’s so perfect for wearing right now but you can also where it into the spring with just a few minor tweaks (lose the boots and throw on some sneakers!). This teal cardigan is from Chicwish and I’ve been wearing it on repeat. It is such a good weight + it’s not itchy at all! Oh, and it also comes in another color! Wearing a size small.

Hopefully this post was helpful for you and have you a few ideas as you start thinking about making the transition to spring and warmer temps! Have a great week friends, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
