Happy Hump day friends! At least I think it’s Wednesday?…It really is hard to keep up these days haha. So we’ve been in South Carolina for exactly one month now, and while I’m mostly adjusted, there are still a few things that I’m trying to get used to. Like not having a weekend anymore (because of Kevin’s work schedule), but things are coming together. I’m still working on a post all about our move and how to pack and not to pack for trips like this. But for now, I thought I’d share a few of the things in my closet that will be going with us no matter where this crazy life takes us. Keep scrolling to find out my top 3 closet staples!

My Top 3 Closet Staples
Do you have any of those pieces in your closet? Like you know if you have one or all of them, you can come up with a bomb outfit? What are they for you? For me, it’s these 3: a black leather jacket, black denim jeans, and black booties. I know, it sounds like a lot of black. But what can I say, it’s a neutral, it’s flattering, you can dress them up or down, and it just looks chic. You can wear each of these things with almost anything else in your closet too, and I personally don’t have any problems wearing them year round. I don’t always wear them all together, but sometimes it’s just one of those days where an all-black outfit is necessary. I do think there are a few tips and tricks to making an all black outfit look amazing.

How to Style An All Black Outfit
There are a few simple tips and tricks that I like to use when putting together an all black (or mostly black) outfit.
- Mix in different textures. I love to mix leather, denim, faux furs, etc to break up an all black look.
- Add a subtle pop of color. Nothing like hot pink or bright yellow, just a dusty mauve or even white tee. This will help you stand out + look super chic and put together!
- Accessorize! I love to add a fun bag or a hat to finish off my all-black outfit. Again, I think this helps you look more put together and like you gave your outfit some thought.

About This Outfit
Not only are these photos a perfect example of how I like to wear my closet staples, but they also happen to feature the exact pieces I love most in my closet.
The Jacket
This faux leather jacket is by BlankNYC, and I cannot stop finding excuses to wear it. It comes with a removable hood so you can dress it up or make it super casual with jeans and a good pair of sneakers. I’m wearing a size medium because the shoulders and sleeves were a little too tight for me in a size small. For a quality leather jacket, the price is hard to beat at just $98.
The Jeans
I searched and searched for the perfect pair of black denim this year. I finally found these at Madewell, and luckily, they were a return from online and the only pair they had in the store. Let me tell you, they fit like a glove and I don’t even know that I’m wearing denim when I wear them. If that makes sense haha. They’re just really comfy, okay! They are a size 28, which is usually a size or two bigger than I normally wear. But I’ve learned you really have to try on jeans from Madewell because they all tend to fit a little differently. Once you find your size though, you’ll never go back.
Pro Tip: Madewell jeans, while totally worth it, can be a little pricey. But you can take in any of your jeans that you no longer wear and receive a $20 credit towards a new pair! This is almost always how I purchase a pair of jeans from Madewell.
The Boots
I mean, who doesn’t love a good pair of black leather booties? These are SO comfortable and I got them for a steal this past fall. (You can get them for $40 here! Originally $129!) The heel is the perfect size for me because it’s basically a flat, but still gives a little height. I’m also obsessed with the pointy toe bootie this year. I just can’t get enough of them. I’m wearing a size 8 which is my normal boot size.

As always, thanks for stopping by! Hope you all have a wonderful week, and if you’re lucky enough to have warmer weather, enjoy it!
