Hi guys! Happy first day of MAY! Can’t believe April is already gone. It’s been a minute since I’ve shared a new post, but l’ve been hard at work on something super exciting that you’ll find out all about next week! But today, I’m sharing the one summer staple that I almost gave up. Have you guessed what it is yet?
Why I Almost Quit Buying Denim Shorts
Simply because for the last 5+ years, I could not for the life of me find a pair that I liked. It’s honestly been a hate-hate relationship since high school. Do you remember those days? The shorts had to be no shorter than your fingertips. Well guess what, ya girl has long arms and I basically had to be in Bermuda shorts for that to work for me. They were either too short, too uncomfortable, or just too expensive. It was nearly impossible to find a pair of shorts my butt didn’t hang out of. And if I was able to find a pair, they just were not comfortable or they were unattractive. This was an issue for me up until the end of last summer. Then something happened, and I feel like {affordable} brands started putting out mid length shorts that were actually cute. Because of that, I decided to give them one last try. Guys, I think I’ve hit the jackpot. So today’s post is dedicated to bringing you a roundup of all of the denim shorts I’m {finally} loving from two well known, affordable brands!

6 Pairs of Denim Shorts You Need This Summer
High Rise Mid Length Denim Shorts from Abercrombie
When I realized that Abercrombie was making a comeback, I was a little hesitant. I never shopped there when I was younger because it was too expensive and the advertising was questionable to say the least haha. But this past fall/winter, they came out with some pieces that really caught my eye. While on the hunt for spring and summer pieces I came across their High Rise Mid Length Denim Shorts. I had seen one or two bloggers wearing them and decided to give them a try. Guys. I am in love! What I love most is that the style comes in several different washes and the details on each are slightly different. So if you love the fit, you have the opportunity to purchase them in several different washes/designs. I own them in three different washes: Ripped Light Wash, Medium Wash, and White, all of which I’ve shared below!

About the Fit
These shorts have the BEST fit. They are really high waisted, which is all I wear these day. Also, they are longer length so everything is covered. Even though they’re longer, they are still super cute and stylish. They have a button fly closure which keeps them super close to the body and prevents them from sliding down as they stretch. I am wearing a size 27 (which is like a 4) in both blue washes and a 28 in the white wash. I could have sized up to a 28 for a looser, boyfriend fit in all of them, but I wanted the blue denim to be a little more fitted. It’s really all about preference!

The Details
Like I said. the fact that these shorts all have slightly different details is one of the things that drew me to them. Most of the time when a style comes in multiple washes, they all look the same which makes me not want to buy more than one pair. With these, you’ll find different hems, washes, destructed details, and pocket details. But the fit is all the same, so you know you’re going to love them! These shorts are also super affordable. They’re only $58 full price, but if you keep an eye out, you’re almost guaranteed to find them on sale. Pro Tip: When you sign up to be a a part of the A & F club, you’ll receive a $10 credit!

Mom Shorts from American Eagle
If you’ve been following me for the last several months, you know my obsession with the Mom Jeans at American Eagle. Well, now they have Mom Shorts that have the same fit and I can’t get enough. What I love about the mom short is that they have a high rise, longer length, and provide a little more room in the hip area. Overall, they’re super flattering shorts. Again, the details are all slightly different from pair to pair. While they are all called mom shorts, the fit of each of these is slightly different, so I’ll go into more detail on fit below. I have these in three washes/styles: Light Destroy Wash, Classic Blue, and Black Wash, all of which you can see below! P.S. all three of these shorts are currently on sale for just over $37!

About The Fit – Light Destroy Wash
When you first purchase these, they come cuffed and fit very true to size. However, after a wash the cuff will come undone because it’s not sewn down, which was fine with me, but just something to be aware of! Of course, you can roll them back up if you like. I purchased a size 4 in these and they fit perfectly, but these have stretched A LOT. I could easily fit into a size 2 in these now, but I’m ok with the loose, boyfriend fit, so I’ve just been adding a belt. While I wish they hadn’t stretched quite so much, I still love these because of the wash and they denim itself is incredibly soft and comfy. Definitely size down in these if you want them to fit true to size after a few washes.

About The Fit – Classic Blue Wash
This pair of Mom Shorts is so unique. They remind of the old school mom short with the pleats and the waist and the 90’s acid wash, which I love. These have a high rise and a more rigid waist than the previous pair. I’m wearing a 4 in these and haven’t noticed much stretch yet.

About The Fit – Black Wash
This pair of mom shorts is a little shorter than the others, but still provide good coverage. They have a high waist and are also room-y in the hip area which I definitely need. I am wearing a size 4 in these and they haven’t stretched out yet! I’ve had this pair for a year, so I don’t see them stretching out if they haven’t already.
