Wow you guys, it’s been a WEEK. It has seriously flown by and I didn’t get half the things done I wanted to. Clearly, since this is the only blog post I’ve gotten out this week. UGH. But one of Kevin’s friends came to stay with us last weekend (Thursday-Tuesday) and it really threw me off haha. Now, we’re getting ready to go to Mississippi for the weekend for mom’s birthday, not to mention we’re leaving next Tuesday for a week for Kevin’s brother’s wedding. I’ll probably never catch up, but it’s fine lol.
Speaking of weddings, in case you missed it last week, I shared 20 wedding guest dresses for fall that you MUST check out. One of the dresses was the one I’m wearing in these photos + it’s the one I decided to wear to Kevin’s brother’s wedding! As I mentioned in that blog post, there is one trend in particular that I am OBSESSED with right now. Which is why I chose this dress. And no it’s not animal print, even though I really love that one too. The fall trend that I am currently living for is the power shoulder.

The Power Shoulder Trend
If you aren’t quite sure what I mean by the power shoulder, let me explain. It’s basically any kind of exaggerated sleeve and/or shoulder detail. Like in the dress I’m wearing here! It’s sort of a nod to the 80’s which I really love. It can range from a subtle ruched look to a full on balloon sleeve. In some instances it can be a little intense, but overall I think it is such a fun trend, and it has the potential to be a classic. Not gonna lie, I always kind of loved it when blazers had padded shoulders haha.

Why I’m Loving this Fall Trend
As I’ve said a hundred times before, trends are not typically something I shop for or give in to, but this year, that has been so much harder. Between all the animal prints and this particular sleeve trend, I’m finding it harder to say no. I love this one trend in particular because it just gives such a powerful look to your overall silhouette. Especially for the office, it can give off some serious confidence, which we all need on occasion. I also love that it creates a balancing affect for so many of us who are blessed in the hip area. Not that we should try to hide our bodies, but if it’s something you’re a little self conscious about (hi, like me) then an exaggerated shoulder is an amazing way to draw attention away from that area of your body.

About My Outfit
My dress is one of my favorites ever, and it’s just under $50! Such a steal. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect of the fabric, but it is actually pretty thick and has a much dressier feel to it than I thought it would. I ended up sizing up to a medium, mainly for the length. Since I’m wearing it to a wedding, I didn’t want it to be too short. The pattern and mock neck are both so perfect for this time of the year. Shoes are from Zara and are also under $50! An entire outfit for $100 is a win in my book.
