I know, I know, I’m a little late to the Valentines outfit party. BUT that’s ok, because this year I’m choosing to shop my closet, and in today’s post I’m sharing why you should too!
Don’t get me wrong, I love shopping for special occasions just as much as the next girl. But for me, it’s important to pick and choose those occasions based on my lifestyle. If you love all things red and pink and covered in hearts, then by all means, shop away. For me though, I hardly ever wear red or pink, and if I’m being totally honest, I am not the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day. This year, I’m trying really hard to live a more sustainable lifestyle when it comes to the things I’m putting in my closet. I think that starts with quality over quantity, which means not feeling the need to shop for every single occasion.

So today I’m sharing 3 great Valentines outfits that are straight from my current wardrobe. They contain some pieces I’ve repurposed from the holiday season, and even a few things that are always in my rotation.

How to Build Valentines Outfits From Your Closet
If you’re pretty much anybody but me, chances are you have something red or pink in your closet. If you do, I encourage you to start with those items and get creative by styling them in new ways that maybe you hadn’t thought to try before. If you are like me, and don’t own any of the above, there are a few things I recommend looking for when picking out your Valentines Day look.

Embellishments
Look for something that sparkles. No, it doesn’t have to be full-on sequin (but it totally can be). Look for subtle embellishments like pearls, rhinestones, or metallic threads. No-one said that sparkles have to be reserved for Christmas and New Years. Little feminine details like a pearl trimmed sweater, in my opinion, are super romantic and perfect for a Valentines Day outfit.

Fabric
Opt for fun fabrics like velvet, lace, eyelet, mesh, etc. Those kinds of fabrics can give off sweet or sexy vibes, depending on what kind of Valentines date night you’re going for (wink wink). If you’re wanting to dress up a little, reach for a flowy skirt with pleated details and your favorite heel.

It really can be so much fun to shop your own closet once you get into that creative mindset and are able to put together unique, romantic looks you haven’t tried before. Not only will you save money in the long run, but your closet will start to go so much further. You’ll learn to love what you have as opposed to always feeling like you need more.
Will you be shopping your closet for Valentines outfits this year? If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
